Sustainable social responsibility is important to the Company since it is one of the aspects that determine long-term sustainability of a company.

The Company has set zero burning policy in all Subsidiaries plantation activities as a form of Company's care by actively assisting Government efforts to reduce CO2 emission that becomes a major factor in global climate changes. The Company and its Subsidiaries actively disseminate the danger of burning wildly towards local community so that both Subsidiaries and local community can participate actively to prevent the land from adverse fires.

The utilization of residue from processing results in oil palm mills is also applied. Solid residue from threshingprocess in form of empty bunch and liquid residues from clarification process is applied to the plantations as organic fertilizer. Solid residue of shells from kernel shell separation is reused as boiler fuel.

In addition, the Company also uses biological methods in pest control and plant disease prevention of oil palm (Eco-Balance) to minimize the impact on the environment.

As one of manifestations of Corporate Social Responsibility that is in line with the Government policy, the Company is committed to involving the community in its business implementation in the form of Integrated Partnership Program (IPP). The program is commonly known as "Plasma Program", which is a partnership program involving the Company (nucleus), local community (plasma farmer), and the Bank as a lender, set forth in the memorandum of agreement. The purpose of IPP are to improve quality of life of the community through a program of cooperation with mutual benefit between nucleus and plasma, and to support plasma farmers in obtaining credit for small business, so that local people get positive impacts from the existence of the Company's plantation.

In conducting their activities, the Company and its Subsidiaries are always trying to build a favorable economic environment and improve the quality of social life. The main policy of the Company and its Subsidiaries is creating job opportunity with priority for local people, selecting local partners, and accommodating fresh fruit bunches from the people around the Company's plantations who have palm oil processing factories. The Company also provides assistance to palm oil farmers from plasma program as well as of independent individuals. The objective is to get optimum crop quality and quantity to encourage them in managing the development of their own area independently and continuously.

Building education facilities for the children of the Subsidiaries' employees from local people is the Company's policy to support the Government's program of 9-year compulsory education. In addition, the Company through its Subsidiaries has participated in building public facilities, such as building houses of worship, health clinics, road hardening, strengthening embankment around the plantations as well as providing other social donation to help victims of natural disasters.
